Three actual worksheet pages from Little Number Garden: numbers 1–9
A real peek inside your free PDF.

A good starting pointFor children beginning to connect a written number with a small quantity. Age is a guide; choose tasks by readiness.

Recognising the shape of 3 and understanding a group of three are different pieces of learning. These number worksheets put both on the same page, with a large numeral, a ten-frame, a digit hunt and strawberries to count.

Choose one familiar number to begin. Your child can point, colour or move a matching card before trying the tracing task. The nine pages follow a predictable routine, so you can revisit an activity without introducing new instructions each time.

What’s inside the PDF

  • Nine number pages, one each for 1–9, with six activities on every page.

Try it together

How to use this activity

  1. Say and show the number

Point to the large numeral and say its name. Show the same quantity on fingers or with objects before colouring the numeral.

  2. Build its quantity

Fill the ten-frame from the top left, completing the first row before the second. Stop after the target number of boxes; empty spaces stay empty.

  3. Find, trace and count

Look for the matching digits, then try a tracing line. Count the strawberries one at a time and colour only the number the page asks for.

  4. Match and explain

Use the optional cards to find matching numerals. Ask your child to show where the same number appears in a different way on the page.

Make it fit your child

A gentler start

Begin with 1–3 and do only the numeral and ten-frame. Pointing or using a chunky crayon is enough; tracing can wait.

Ready for another step?

Cover the large numeral and ask your child to identify the quantity from the completed ten-frame. Then find that numeral elsewhere.

Printing and using the pages

Download the PDF, open it in a PDF viewer and choose A4 paper at 100% or “actual size”. Print only the pages you want to use. Check the preview before printing; keep colour cues visible when a selected task depends on them.

Regular paper works for the worksheets. For reusable loose cards, light card can be easier to handle if your printer supports it. Keep any cutout pieces at the printed scale so they fit their mat. A grown-up should handle preparation and cutting.

These original BundleBrain pages are free for personal and classroom use. Share a link to this activity page so other families can find the instructions and download their own copy. Please do not resell or re-upload the PDF.

A couple of questions

Does this pack include zero or ten?

It covers 1–9. For zero, try Feed the Number Monsters; for two-digit quantities, move to Build Numbers 11–20 when counting ten is secure.

Must my child complete all six tasks?

No. Choose one or two that suit today's attention and pencil control. The remaining tasks make useful return visits.
