Three actual worksheet pages from Build Numbers 11–20
A real peek inside your free PDF.

A good starting pointBegin when counting to ten and matching small quantities to numerals are secure. Age is a guide; choose tasks by readiness.

Teen numbers are easier to discuss when your child can see the complete ten and the extra ones. These worksheets use paired ten-frames and tens-and-ones representations to make that structure visible.

Each number from 11 to 20 has a focus page. Mixed model-counting and missing-number pages follow, along with a reusable building mat. Choose concrete building first when a written numeral alone is not yet meaningful.

Try it together

How to use this activity

  1. Make one whole ten

Count and fill the first ten-frame. Name it as ten before adding anything to the next frame.

  2. Add the extra ones

For 13, fill three spaces in the second frame. Say 'one ten and three ones make thirteen', pointing to each part of the model.

  3. Connect the model and numeral

Try the tens-and-ones, tracing, matching and ordering tasks. Return to the frames when the written number needs checking.

  4. Build and review

Use a whole ten-strip and loose single squares on the mat. Later try the mixed model page and missing-number rows without a focus title giving the number.

Make it fit your child

A gentler start

Work with 11 and 12 first. Let your child place the pieces while you say and write the number.

Ready for another step?

Show a mixed model and ask your child to identify the tens before counting extra ones. Cover the numeral, predict it and then write it.

Printing and using the pages

Download the PDF, open it in a PDF viewer and choose A4 paper at 100% or “actual size”. Print only the pages you want to use. Check the preview before printing; keep colour cues visible when a selected task depends on them.

Regular paper works for the worksheets. For reusable loose cards, light card can be easier to handle if your printer supports it. Keep any cutout pieces at the printed scale so they fit their mat. A grown-up should handle preparation and cutting.

These original BundleBrain pages are free for personal and classroom use. Share a link to this activity page so other families can find the instructions and download their own copy. Please do not resell or re-upload the PDF.
