Hidden Number Reveals 0–9
Small matching digits build a big number—one coloured square at a time.

A good starting pointFor recognising digits 0–9 and following a matching-and-colouring rule. Age is a guide; choose tasks by readiness.
On each page, your child finds one target digit hidden among others. Colouring its whole square reveals a large version of that same numeral, turning a visual search into a visible result.
The separate ten-frame task links the digit to a quantity. Keep the two parts distinct: the large reveal is made from many squares, while the small dot model shows the value of the number.

How to use this activity
Choose and name the digit
Point to the number at the top and say its name. Find one matching digit together before searching the whole grid.
Fill the matching cells
Colour the complete square around every matching digit. Leave other squares white. One crayon colour will make the numeral clearly visible.
Check the outline
Look at the large shape appearing in the grid. Search row by row for remaining matches and compare with the answer picture after trying.
Connect it to quantity
Trace the numeral, choose its match and count the dots in the separate model. Say how many dots the number represents.
Make it fit your child
A gentler start
Begin with an easily recognised digit. Search one row together and cover the remaining rows with a spare sheet to reduce visual clutter.
Ready for another step?
Ask your child to compare similar digits such as 6 and 9, naming what changes in their orientation before searching.

Printing and using the pages
Download the PDF, open it in a PDF viewer and choose A4 paper at 100% or “actual size”. Print only the pages you want to use. Check the preview before printing; keep colour cues visible when a selected task depends on them.
Regular paper works for the worksheets. For reusable loose cards, light card can be easier to handle if your printer supports it. Keep any cutout pieces at the printed scale so they fit their mat. A grown-up should handle preparation and cutting.

Good to know
A couple of questions
Do we follow a colour-by-number key?
No. Any single colour works. Match the target digit, fill its square and leave all other digits white.
Does this teach counting as well as recognition?
The reveal focuses on digit recognition. The separate dot-counting task links it to a quantity; use physical counters if more support is needed.
