A good starting pointStart when counting on is familiar. Introduce missing hops later, often around ages 6–7. Age is a guide; choose tasks by readiness.
A printed number path turns an equation into a movement your child can count. Put the frog on the starting number, move one space for each hop and read the number where it lands.
This extended pack has three ways to play: forward addition, backward subtraction and finding an unknown number of forward hops. Introduce one mode at a time. The paper pieces are moved by hand; the Reel is an animated demonstration of that action.

How to use this activity
Set up one mode
Print a board and begin with the within-five addition cards. A grown-up prepares the frog and card pieces, keeping the white border around the frog.
Place the starting number
Read a card such as 1 + 3. Put the frog on 1 before counting any hops. The starting position is not itself a move.
Move one space per count
Move forward three spaces, saying one, two, three. Land on 4 and read 'one plus three equals four'. Follow the numbered path, including where it turns.
Introduce a new question
For subtraction, start on the first number and move backwards. For a missing-hop card, count the moves needed to reach the target. Use the passport when those routines are familiar.
Make it fit your child
A gentler start
Stay within five and model the first card. Let your child move while you read the symbols and record the answer.
Ready for another step?
Use the missing-hop cards and ask your child to predict the number of moves before testing it on the board.

Printing and using the pages
Download the PDF, open it in a PDF viewer and choose A4 paper at 100% or “actual size”. Print only the pages you want to use. Check the preview before printing; keep colour cues visible when a selected task depends on them.
Regular paper works for the worksheets. For reusable loose cards, light card can be easier to handle if your printer supports it. Keep any cutout pieces at the printed scale so they fit their mat. A grown-up should handle preparation and cutting.

Good to know
A couple of questions
Does the paper frog jump by itself?
No. The printable provides a frog piece for moving by hand along the board. No spring or folding mechanism is required.
Are all three games suitable immediately?
Begin with addition. Add backwards subtraction and missing hops only when the earlier movement and counting are comfortable.
