Make three letters into pictures your child can colour, assemble and talk about.

A good starting pointFor colouring and placing pieces with a grown-up preparing the cutouts. Age is a guide; choose tasks by readiness.
A becomes an apple craft, B becomes a butterfly and C becomes a caterpillar. Each large template gives your child a letter to handle and a picture word to say while making it.
The coloured examples show one possible result. Your child's colours and arrangement can vary. Keep the letter visible as the pieces come together, then look for the same letter in a book or on another page.

How to use this activity
Meet the letter and picture
Say the letter name and the picture word together. Look at the finished example to understand what the loose pieces will make.
Colour before cutting
Keep the template on a full sheet while your child colours it. This gives a steadier surface than trying to colour small loose pieces.
Prepare and place the pieces
A grown-up cuts the template. Invite your child to try the pieces on a backing sheet before gluing. For B, arrange both wings around the body.
Finish and revisit
Glue the arrangement, drawing butterfly antennae if needed. Name the letter again and find another example of it in familiar print.
Make it fit your child
A gentler start
Prepare the cutouts in advance and offer only the pieces for one letter. Help with glue while your child chooses colours and placement.
Ready for another step?
Ask your child to explain which parts form the letter and which make it look like an animal or fruit. Find the lowercase partner elsewhere.

Printing and using the pages
Download the PDF, open it in a PDF viewer and choose A4 paper at 100% or “actual size”. Print only the pages you want to use. Check the preview before printing; keep colour cues visible when a selected task depends on them.
Regular paper works for the worksheets. For reusable loose cards, light card can be easier to handle if your printer supports it. Keep any cutout pieces at the printed scale so they fit their mat. A grown-up should handle preparation and cutting.

A couple of questions
Does the PDF contain crafts for every letter?
No. This approved pack contains A, B and C. The free library also has full A–Z matching, reveal and practice packs.
Should children cut the inner holes themselves?
A grown-up should prepare the pieces and inside cuts. Children can focus on colouring, arranging and gluing.
