A good starting pointFor children familiar with common letter sounds and beginning to blend CVC words. Age is a guide; choose tasks by readiness.
The monster's words are missing their middle letters. Your child names a picture, chooses a vowel, writes it in the gap and blends the completed word. The picture anchors the intended word so a missing-letter task has a clear meaning.
The pack covers fifteen different short-vowel words, with some repeated in mixed practice. You can begin with a single vowel page before moving to the mixed missions. The spoken demonstration models the routine; the printed activity should move at your child's pace.

Try it together
How to use this activity
Agree on the picture word
Name the picture together before looking at the vowel choices. Use the key if a drawing is unfamiliar, so your child is working towards the intended word.
Listen for the middle sound
Say the word naturally, then model its sounds. For cat, listen for short a between c and t. Ask your child to choose the matching vowel.
Complete and blend
Circle the vowel and write the same letter in the middle gap. Point to the letters, blend the sounds and say the whole word.
Write and revisit
Copy or attempt the complete word on the line. When one vowel feels familiar, choose a mixed mission and repeat the same routine.
Make it fit your child
A gentler start
Start with a single-vowel page and complete one word together. Your child can point to the vowel while you handle the writing.

Printing and using the pages
Download the PDF, open it in a PDF viewer and choose A4 paper at 100% or “actual size”. Print only the pages you want to use. Check the preview before printing; keep colour cues visible when a selected task depends on them.
Regular paper works for the worksheets. For reusable loose cards, light card can be easier to handle if your printer supports it. Keep any cutout pieces at the printed scale so they fit their mat. A grown-up should handle preparation and cutting.
